Bausch + Lomb Corporation has announced the launch of PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula soft gels plus coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in the United States.

Wait … didn’t the company already launch a couple products this month?

Yup they did!  Just last week, B+L announced the US launches of the Biotrue Hydration Boost Contact Lens rehydrating drops as well as the US launch of its INFUSE multifocal silicone hydrogel (SiHy) contact lenses.

Gotcha. Now give me some background on this AREDS 2 formula.

Researchers in the National Eye Institute’s (NEI’s) second Age-Related Eye Disease Studies (AREDS2) (NC00345176), found that a specific nutrient formula can lower the risk of progression of moderate-to-advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

In 2021, 10-year data confirmed that the formula has persistent long-term benefits for this patient base.

See here for a more detailed history.

So what exactly is the AREDS2 formula?

The formula includes lutein (10 mg); zeaxanthin (2 mg); Vitamin E (180 mg); Vitamin C (500 mg); zinc (80 mg); and copper (2 mg).

Talk about these new soft gels.

According to the company, the AREDS 2 Formula soft gels are a two-in-one option as well as the only eye vitamins with the exact nutrition formula recommended by the NEI designed to reduce the risk of moderate-to-advanced AMD in patients with CoQ10 for heart health support.

To note, in addition to the AREDS2 formula, the formulation also contains 100 mg of CoQ10.

I need more info on CoQ10.

CoQ10 is an antioxidant that is naturally produced and supports healthy cell function.

CoQ10 levels tend to decrease in aging patients as well as certain conditions such as heart disease, and with certain medications, genetic defects, and nutritional deficiencies.

What’s the recommended dosage?

Two soft gels can be taken each day with food: once in the morning and once in the evening.

See here for information for the complete ingredient list and nutrition breakdown.

Where can I find these new soft gels?

According to B+L, they can be purchased in-store or online at most major retailers, including Walmart, Target, and Amazon.

What other PreserVision products are there?

These soft gels are the just the latest in a now-seven-product lineup of AREDS and AREDS2 formula gels, chewables, multivitamins, and tablets.

Others include PreserVision AREDS2 Formula mini soft gels with OCUSorb (launched in January 2023) and the AREDS formula soft gels.
