Bausch + Lomb has launched the INFUSE Multifocal silicone hydrogel (SiHy) contact lenses, a new line of daily disposable contact lenses for presbyopia management.

Let’s talk about these lenses.

The INFUSE daily disposable contacts feature B+L’s next-generation material “infused” with ProBalance Technology—a proprietary blend of ingredients infused into the lens in order to maintain ocular surface homeostasis and aid in minimizing lens dryness—as well as a unique 3-Zone Progressive design (for a moist and comfortable fit).

Ultraviolet A and B protection is also featured, to limit sun exposure.

Tell me more about this lens material.

Per the company, the next-gen material (kalifilcon A) is intended to provide high-definition optics and maintain 96% of its moisture for 16 hours (due to a low modulus and high moisture content).

The 3-Zone Progressive design targets delivery of clear near and intermediate vision without sacrificing distance vision.

Any clinical data on them?

According to B+L , yes!

The company referenced a 20-site, 3-week study conducted on the INFUSE lenses for habitual multifocal soft contact lens wearers, in which 290 presbyopic participants completed a lens performance rating survey (7-point agree/disagree scale) after a 3-week follow-up visit.

Per the company, 90% of participants agreed the lenses “allowed them to effortlessly move from various tasks throughout the day.”A survey on ECPs evaluating the fit and performance of 292 presbyopic patients following their 3-week follow-up also reported that they found the lenses to be easy to fit for 99% of patients, B+L reported.

Any expert feedback?

According to Mile Brujic, OD, FAAO, a partner at Premier Vision Group (Bowling Green, Ohio), the INFUSE multifocal lenses “demonstrate consistent focusing power in each zone of vision, help ensure a smooth, wettable surface for patient comfort, and are easy to fit.”

So where can I find these lenses?

Patients can learn more about how to obtain the lenses here, or find an eyecare professional to provide a fitting for trial lenses here.

What other presbyopia lenses does B + L offer?

The company also offers ULTRA for Presbyopia multifocal lenses, which are monthly multifocal contact lenses made with SiHy material, as well as Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia, made with nesofilcon A and incorporating the 3-Zone Progressive Design.
