OCuSOFT Inc. is debuting the latest addition to its Retaine portfolio of ocular products: Retaine Ultra preservative-free (PF) eye drops in a multi-dose bottle.

The product made its first appearance at last week’s American Optometric Association (AOA) and the American Optometric Student Association’s (AOSA) Optometry’s Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona,

Expand more on these Retaine products.

The Retaine brand of specialized—and typically PF products—encompass artificial tears, drops, sprays, emulsions, and ointments for dry eye relief and ocular surface comfort.

Its flagship product is Retaine MGD Advanced, a non-preserved ophthalmic emulsion formulated with a proprietary oil-in-water emulsion technology that restores all three tear film layers.

And what other products has the company launched recently?

If you mean recently as in the last couple of years, we’ve previously covered the launch of:

  • Retaine Omega Forte, a highly purified omega-3 nutritional supplement formulated for dry eye support
  • Retaine Allergy, a prescription-strength antihistamine drop formulated with olopatadine hydrochloride (HCl) ophthalmic solution, USP 0.2%, for eye allergy itch relief.

Speaking of Retaine … talk about this latest addition.

Retaine ULTRA PF Lubricant Eye Drops is marketed as a daily, multi-dose lubricant eye drop option packaged in a 10 mL PF bottle.

Its delivery system operates as an “easy-to-use alternative” to single-use vials—all while enabling PF dosing (1 to 2 drops in the affected eye[s]).

Talk key features.

A few to keep in mind … including fact-acting hydration and a “moisture-rich” formulation for sensitive eyes.

  • Its two active ingredients: polyethylene glycol 400 0.4% and propylene glycol 0.3%.

What’s so special about those two lubricant ingredients?

Generally speaking, this combination is used to temporarily relieve burning, irritation, and discomfort from dry eyes with the formulation mimicking natural tears.

It’s often used in other over-the-counter (OTC) eye drops or artificial tears.

Circle back to that note about sensitive eyes—who are the ideal patients?

OCuSOFT noted the drops are intended for indoor environments in patients who are frequent screen users or travelers.
