Olleyes, Inc.’s hearing division (Ollears) is debuting the launch of a new technology exclusively for eyecare providers (ECPs): HearALL, the first-ever virtual reality (VR)-based hearing care platform.
First, a rundown on Olleyes.
Headquartered in New Jersey, the privately-held medical software company specializes in developing portable, VR-based diagnostic platforms for optometry and ophthalmology clinical practices.
And its portfolio?
Includes diagnostic technology for both in-office and at-home evaluations of ophthalmic diseases (retinal and glaucoma):
- VisuALL Virtual Reality Platform (VRP): An FDA-registered, Class I medical device that doubles as a VR-virtual field (VF) assessment system conducted via the use of a portable headset.
- See all the details on this flagship product, including its two models (S and ETS)
- And check out the clinical data supporting the VisuALL as comparable to the Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) in glaucoma patients
Plus, in recent news: Olleyes introduced TechALL, remote ophthalmic tech support for ophthalmic technicians using the VisuALL platform across the country.
Now to this … hearing addition.
HearALL is built on the VisuALL VRP to enable eyecare practices to offer comprehensive hearing assessments—with “no need for additional real estate (space), staff, or training.”
- Keep in mind: This original VR-based system encompasses, among other features, a headset with ultra high-definition resolution (4K HD).
As for use: HearALL can be used either in combination with the VisuALL VPR or as a stand-alone VR platform.
Got it. Next: Explain how it works.
The process is simple:
- ECPs first conduct a hearing screening test via the HearALL VR headset, which includes sensors and other hardware components that enable them to evaluate whether patients can perceive a stimulus when presented
- Then, at the end of the assessment, an easy-to-interpret report is automatically generated—complete with color-coded sections
- Finally, for patients with affected hearing, an ECP can offer them optional FDA-approved hearing aids
Expand on these hearing aids.
Per recent FDA guidelines, over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids may be sold to patients with mild-to-moderate hearing impairments.
- To note: These hearing aids must already have a 510(k) clearance in place.
With HearALL: The platform is reported to offer “multiple FDA-registered hearing aid models,” including those with mobile app connections.
And how long does the test actually take?
Roughly 1 minute.
So what kind of tech support does Olleyes offer for this service?
Olleyes offers two options:
- Annie, an embedded artificial intelligence (AI) technician
- Access to remote audiologists, available on demand
The thought: ECPs can either integrate this technology into their existing clinical workflow or expand their services.
Now … why should ECPs consider adding this to their practice?
Aside from HearALL’s easy integration into the VisuALL (for current users) and the chance to offer more comprehensive patient care (among a few other reasons), Olleyes noted one major advantage to consider:
- A reported “immediate” return on investment (ROI)—and potential for increased practice revenue
Let’s talk pricing options.
Three plans are available for practices, with the cheapest at $0 a month, followed by $49 per month and a one-time payment of $2,590.
The accessibility with each plan varies; however, the most popular plan ($49 dubbed as the “smart” plan) comes with:
- Free hearing aid pair (available with all plans, take note)
- Monthly hearing aids commitment (5 in total)
- Screening hearing test
- Full VRP access
- Patient data storage
- Free system updates
- Olleyes tech discounts
Now, what if an ECP already uses the VisuALL platform in their practice?
Olleyes noted that current users can add the HearALL test to their platform by contacting the company.
And for new users?
ECPs interested in adding this to their practice are advised to reach out to an Olleyes representative or clinical account specialist to schedule a meeting.
