Bausch + Lomb Corporation has launched the SeeNa optical biometry and topography system for refractive cataract patients in the United States.
Wait just a minute… didn’t B+L just launch a new system?
Indeed! But that was a surgical planning software designed to integrate with the company’s eyeTELLIGENCE software platform (more on that in a moment) that can provide surgeons with the ability to digitally manage data / personalize their approach for surgical cases.

Gotcha. Sounds like this platform is something I should know about.
It’s highly recommended , especially since it’s directly involved with this new product…
Launched in 2018, the eyeTELLIGENCE software platform is a cloud-based application designed to allow surgeons access to their personal settings using any of B+L’s Stellaris Elite vision enhancement systems.
To note, the Stellaris Elite system is a combined phacoemulsification and vitrectomy system capable of supporting both anterior and posterior segment surgeries on one platform.
Now talk about this new system.
The SeeNa is an ophthalmic diagnostic system designed to capture nine key measurements (listed below) to calculate intraocular lens (IOL) power (see here for measurement range data) and predict effective lens position (ELP) with a single image acquisition.
- Axial length (AL)
- Keratometry
- Anterior chamber depth (ACD)
- Central corneal thickness (CCT)
- Lens thickness
- Corneal topography
- Corneal wavefront analysis
- Photopic and mesopic pupillometry
- Corneal white-to-white (WTW) measurements
And in relation to eyeTELLLIGENCE?
The SeeNa integrates with eyeTELLIGENCE software platform to potentially create a more streamlined cataract and refractive surgical planning and information flow.
The system exports raw data and reports to a shared folder, external electronic medical record (EMR) software, and eyeTELLIGENCE.
What other features are included?
A user-friendly interface is designed for easy-to-learn acquisition, operational skills, and quick results (in mere seconds, according to the company).
And a DICOM panel within the SeeNa Connectivity section also enables a user to set the needed parameters for connection to several DICOM features.
Can it be used with any of B+L’s workflows?
Yup. The company’s Cataract Workflow—intended to offer pre-surgical evaluation, planning, and post-op follow up—incorporates the SeeNa as a tool for surgeons to plan for surgery and analyze visual outcomes.

What does this mean for surgeons?
With the SeeNa, according to Luc Bonnefoy, B+L president, Global Surgical, refractive cataract surgeons are able to gather critical measurements in a few steps.
“The integrated eyeTELLIGENCE software connectivity combines these data points to help eliminate the need for multiple documents and avoid lost data and time.”
