On the heels of debuting its new artificial intelligence (AI) digital health platform, Bausch + Lomb announced the U.S. launch of the Eyegility Inserter preloaded intraocular lens (IOL) delivery system.
B+L has certainly been busy lately …
Indeed it has—in fact, the company has unveiled several new product updates in just the last few months (see below):
- Last week: U.S. launch of Orphia (that aforementioned AI platform)
- Last month: U.S. launch of Blink Triple Care Preservative-Free (PF) eye drops
- April: FDA clearance of the Bli-Blade + vitrectomy cutter and Adaptive Fluidics technology (for the Stellaris Elite Vision Enhancement System)

For starters: EyeGility is designed for use in the enVista IOL platform.
- Quick refresh on this: The enVista product line features FDA-approved monofocal and toric hydrophobic acrylic IOLs crafted with unique features and proprietary technologies.
Among the most recent additions: The enVista Aspire (toric and monofocal), launched in October 2023, and the enVista Envy (toric and non-toric), FDA-approved in October 2024.
Can you get more specific on what makes the enVista IOLs unique?
These IOLs feature:
- Aberration-free optics and a distinctive lens design for stable performance, predictability, and visual clarity
- Due to AccuSet Haptics, designed for extensive interaction with the capsular bag to aid in securing the lens position

Designed as a sterile, single-use manual surgical instrument, the EyeGility is specifically intended for use with preloaded enVista Aspire and Envy IOLs.
- Its official indication: For folding and inserting of approved enVista IOL models for use with this IOL insertion device as indicated in the IOL approved labeling.

And how does it benefit surgeons?
Among its offerings, the EyeGility provides:
- A one-handed operation and balanced push force to ensure a smooth delivery
- Includes a silicone, soft-tipped plunger and IOL delivery injection via a 2.4 mm incision
- Improved inserter comfort (compared to prior B+L inserters)
- A loading process allowing for up to 20 minutes of standby time, from prep to lens delivery
Any precautions or warnings?
If used with other enVista IOL models, damage is likely to be done to the IOL and / or the inserter—and potentially result in eye damage.
