CooperVision is introducing expanded parameters—and availability—to its U.S. inventory of Biofinity XR toric contact lenses.
First up: Tell me about this lens.
The Biofinity XR toric lens originally made its U.S. debut in 2016 as an extension of CooperVision’s Biofinity XR brand (featuring sphere lenses), which launched in 2013.
- The target patients for these XR toric lenses: those with high prescriptions and astigmatism.
And speaking of Biofinity in general … that monthly silicone hydrogel (SiHy) contact lens brand preceded the Biofinity XR brand by 7 years (see here for details on its 2006 debut).
What’s the difference between brands?
While the Biofinity and Biofinity XR brands feature the same lens design and materials for soft, breathable comfort, the XR is custom-built to handle more intense vision corrections (in other words: higher prescriptions, as we mentioned earlier).

Talk design and variations.
Similar to the Biofinity brand, Biofinity XR lenses are soft, flexible, and embedded with CooperVision’s unique lens technologies:
- Aquaform Technology
- This premium material tech creates a naturally hydrating lens by delivering more moisture and oxygen to the eyes by locking in water molecules for a comfortable, all-day fit.
- Aberration Neutralizing System
- Designed for nearsightedness and farsightedness, this tech enhances vision performance by minimizing (neutralizing) spherical aberrations.
Now to this expansion plan.
Over 1,500 new parameters have been added for the Biofinity XR toric’s customizable domestic inventory—bringing the grand total of parameters now available to +2,300.
- CooperVision noted that these will be available for next-day shipping (and includes both trial lenses and six-packs).
- The company also plans to continue “transitioning additional Biofinity XR toric powers from its U.K. manufacturing facility” to its Scottsville, New York, location, throughout the rest of 2026.
- The intent: to shorten shipping times for customers.
… and which specific parameters will now be fulfilled directly from the U.S.?
Cylinder: –2.75; Sphere: +8.00 to -10.00 (0.50 steps above +/- 6.00); Axis: 10° to 180° (10° steps) Sphere: plano to -6.00 (0.50 steps only); Axis: 5° and 175°Cylinder: –3.25; Sphere: plano to -10.00 (0.50 steps above -6.00); Axis: 10° to 180° (10° steps) Sphere: plano to -6.00 (0.50 steps only); Axis: 5° and 175°Cylinder: –3.75; Sphere: plano to -10.00 (0.50 steps above -6.00); Axis: 10° to 180° (10° steps)
And take note: These will be fulfilled from the company’s West Henrietta, New York-based manufacturing facility.
So what’s the reasoning behind these expansions?
Per CooperVision, next-day delivery of lenses from its U.S. inventory will (ideally) benefit practices with:
- Scheduling earlier follow-up appointments
- Reducing delays when prescription adjustments are needed
- Streamlining the overall fitting process
