Professional Eye Care Associates of America (PECAA) is gearing up to launch a new portfolio of private label contact lenses in the coming weeks.
Dubbed PECAA Promise, the line of daily disposable (DD) contact lenses will be exclusively available to PECAA Max members.
How exciting! But before we talk lenses, let’s get familiar with PECAA.
Founded in 2006 by three independent optometrists, PECAA is known as one of the top physician alliance and buying groups in the country, serving a community of over 12,000 independent eyecare professionals: optometrists, ophthalmologists, and optical practices.
Its focus: Extends to protecting and promoting independent and private-practice ECPs through tailored membership plans (designed to give members “total flexibility” without requiring a contract).
And what services does it offer?
Among PECAA’s offerings:
- Vendor discount programs
- Loyalty rebates
- Business consulting and practice management aid
- Billing and coding support
- Education and staff training
- Networking events and peer groups
- Human resources support
- Healthcare reform guidance
- Customized digital marketing
Another notable highlight: PECAA Launch, a cold start practice program designed to support ECPs opening new practices. Check out the benefits associated with this (including a free membership for the first year).
I’m officially familiarized. Now to this lens launch.
Unveiled during PECAA’s annual meeting last week, PECAA Promise is a private label, DD lens family comprised of:
- PECAA Promise 1 day
- PECAA Promise 1 day premium
Get more specific, please.
Manufactured by CooperVision, the lenses are described as a "customer brand family” of the company’s MyDay DD and Clariti 1-Day contact lens portfolios.
Some background on those: Each portfolio offers vision correction via a 1-day silicon hydrogel (SiHy) lens material designed for “virtually every refractive error,” including:
- Sphere
- Toric
- Multifocal (MF)
Break each down for me.
We’ll start with the MyDay DD lens. Its key features:
- Aberration Neutralizing System for enhanced vision quality via minimized optical imperfection
- Embedded in the lens’s front surface design, prescription-customized, and designed to neutralize spherical aberration impact in the eye
- Aquaform Technology to lock in water (for natural wettability), ensure all-day comfort, and keep eyes clear and white via delivery of high oxygen levels
Similarly, the Clariti 1-day lens offers:
- Natural wettable lens material for all-day comfort
- Up to 3X the oxygen to reach the eye (check out the supporting clinical data on this)
- Built-in ultraviolet (UV)-blocking filters for UVA and UVB rays
Noted. So what do we know about the launch of these PECAA Promise lenses?
The portfolio is referred to as a “private label” for a reason, as it will only be available to PECAA Max members.
The launch date: June 1—upon which members can order directly from CooperVision and “all major contact lens distributors,” according to PECAA.
Why the exclusivity?
It’s no secret that online contact lens sales are a sore subject for private practices.
Case in point: Independent practices are reportedly losing an estimated 37% of lens purchases to online sellers, according to research from The Vision Council.
- See here for more data on consumers’ lens-purchasing habits.
So with this exclusive line: PECAA President Jonathan Worrall noted that the PECAA Promise lenses are “truly a win-win for both doctor and patient,” enabling ECPs “ to reclaim lost sales while offering patients the value and convenience they desire.”
- Check out the promising results from a 1-month in-market assessment of the lenses based on feedback from nearly 30 ECPs and 450+ patients.
Speaking of sales and value … will patients get any savings with the private line?
indeed—two rebates will be offered for new and existing lens wearers.
- Up to $200 in savings for existing CooperVision lens wearers
- Up to $225 in savings for new CooperVision lens wearers
Nice! And, this may be premature, but are there plans to expand the portfolio?
There are, actually! PECAA expects to expand the customer brand product line with two CooperVision-manufactured additions:
- MyDays Energys (DD lens)
- Timeframe: later in 2026
- Bioinfinity brand family (five lenses in total)
- Timeframe: 2027
