Marco Lombart, an Advancing Eyecare company, and Haag-Streit USA are partnering on an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement in which Marco will become the exclusive U.S. distributor for three of Haag-Streit’s ophthalmic technologies.

First, a look at these players.

Headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, Marco Lombart is one of the largest U.S. providers of new and pre-owned ophthalmic equipment for optometry and ophthalmology practices as well as other medical settings.

Among its product categories: exam lane, pre-testing, diagnostic / imaging, treatment and surgical, lab and dispensing, plus supplies and accessories.

  • In total, it offers 9K products to over 79K customers.
  • Also check out its parent company: Advancing Eyecare.

And Haag-Streit?

No introduction needed. See here for the latest news on this international Swiss medical device company.

As for its U.S. arm: The group is headquartered in Mason, Ohio (here’s a look at the medical equipment it manufactures and distributes).

So! Which products are involved in this distribution deal?

That would be two product lines encompassing three of Haag-Streit’s diagnostic technologies in optical biometry and perimetry.

In optical biometry: the Lenstar 900

What it is: Originally debuting in the U.S. in 2008 (check out its FDA 510[k] clearance), this “all-in-one” optical biometer is designed to "reduce variability in (intraocular) IOL calculations” by providing keratometry and axial biometry of the entire eye.

And how does it do that?

Via optical low coherence reflectometry (OLCR) to measure the axial length parameters of the eye—enabling more precise IOL prediction—as well as central corneal thickness (including a reproducibility of an ~ ±2 μm), anterior chamber depth, and lens thickness.

Importantly: The system captures these details via just a single measurement scan. Learn more.

Now to the other two products in this deal.

Those would be the Octopus 600 and Octopus 900 perimeter devices.

  • What they do: Provide repeatable visual field (VF) testing used to diagnose and monitor (long-term) glaucoma, among other ophthalmic conditions.

Break this perimetry portfolio down for me.

Designed as a compact and dark room-independent device, the Octopus 600 offers standard central field white-on-white perimetry and fast screening.

Meanwhile, the Octopus 900 is a full-field static and kinetic perimeter offering an extensive range of static perimetry tests, such as central VF, low vision, and custom options.

  • Similar to the Octopus 600, this compact device features a Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) mode and can also be integrated into practice workflows via the EyeSuite software
  • But unlike the 600 device, it is used in global clinical research settings worldwide, including for custom perimetry protocols developed for use in international clinical trials

So are these the only Haag-Streit devices Marco Lombart will distribute?

In the United States? Not all — they’re just the latest.

Aside from the Lenstar and Octopus portfolios, the company also distributes several other Haag-Streit-manufactured products. See the inventory.

And in regard to these new products, they’re already on the website.
