Eyes On Eyecare has partnered with the Intrepid Eye Society (IES) to launch a new exclusive video channel for optometrists: Inside Intrepid.
How exciting! But first, let’s get a refresher on the Intrepid Eye Society.
Established in 2015, IES is a professional organization comprising a diverse group of optometrists— check out who’s on the IES Board and take a look at current members—dedicated to the advancement of optometry.
How they’re doing this: By sharing clinical insights on topics related to:
- Future medical therapeutics
- Diagnostics
- Practice development
- Research and development
- Collaborative care with ophthalmology
So what does IES membership look like?
An array of initiatives are held throughout the year, including webinars, roundtables, interviews, panel discussion, and workshops—all intended to promote “professional development and knowledge exchange,” according to IES.
Most notably: The organization actually just held its annual Innovation Summit Conference in Miami, Florida, last week.
- Plus: Members are also invited to join advisory boards, attend several New Technology Summits offered throughout the year, and earn continuing education (CE) credits.
- See here for engagement program opportunities available for industry partners.
Alrighty, now let’s talk about this new video channel.
Officially launched earlier this month, Inside Intrepid offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how top ODs approach and manage complex topics in clinical practice.
As IES President Jacob Lang, OD, FAAO, noted, the channel is “a new platform for our members to amplify forward-thinking perspectives and help shape the future of patient care alongside industry.”

And I have to ask: What’s the intent behind its launch?
As EOE CEO Matt Geller, OD, put it, the goal is to “surface the conversations you normally don’t get to hear” from some of the brightest minds in eyecare.
"By bringing those open clinical debates to a broader audience, we're giving optometrists a clearer view into how experienced clinicians think through real-world challenges,” he said.
So what can we expect from these videos?
Each episode will feature two to three IES members participating in a focused, 15-minute (unscripted) conversation tackling key issues shaping modern optometric care.
Among the topics up for discussion:
- Surgical collaboration
- Glaucoma diagnosis and treatment challenges
- Pediatric eyecare
- Dry eye masqueraders
And who will we hear from?
Here’s just a preview of some of the clinical experts:
- Melissa Barnett, OD, FAAO
- Vin Dang, OD
- Cecelia Koetting, OD, FAAO
- Nathan Lighthizer, OD, FAAO
- Selina McGee, OD, FAAO
- Mark Schaeffer, OD
- Jessica Steen, OD, FAAO
Sounds pretty cool … so when will new episodes be released?
The first few episodes are already out! Click here to view them (hint: topics include co-management and the expanding role of ODs in medical affairs).
As for the program schedule: New episodes will be released on a bi-weekly basis.
