Rayner is introducing eyejourney, a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based, patient support and engagement platform for ophthalmic clinics.

I could’ve sworn we just had a Rayner update …

We did indeed. In fact, the British ophthalmic medical product manufacturer was granted FDA clearance just last month for its Sophi phacoemulsification system.

  • Sophi’s claim to fame: This is the first battery-powered, wireless phaco system with triple pump fluidics for greater anterior chamber control during cataract surgery.

See other recent news from the company—including an intraocular lens (IOL) approval in October 2025.

Now to this newest launch.

The eyejourney was developed by Innoptix, the digital arm of Rayner.

Its purpose: To “support education, reassurance, and next steps over time—giving clinics the tools to guide patients clearly through care, while reducing clinic workload.”

  • The system integrates education, consent, and workflow efficiency into a single space by simplifying—and customizing—the patient experience.

Tell me more.

Available as a mobile and iPad app (via iOS and Android), eyejourney offers patients:

  • On-demand, structured education
    • Clear, pre-/post-op instructional short videos, podcasts, and articles on procedures, recovery expectations, and common concerns
  • Automated reminders
    • Supports tracking medication and prescription drop schedule configured by clinics
  • Personalized messaging
    • Via targets messages to help clinics maintain clear communication with patients, from first consult to recovery
  • AI-generated videos
    • Featuring custom avatars to explain ophthalmic conditions and next steps
  • Digital consent
    • Includes simple digital consent forms, clear confirmations—all completed securely online

Explain clinics’ involvement in this.

Per Rayner, the app is available to ophthalmic clinics via the eyejourney portal, where they can configure, manage, and monitor the platform for their patients.

This portal includes a digital dashboard that gives clinics an “at-a-glance” view of patients' engagement on the app, including their:

  • Onboarding status
  • Medication adherence
  • Education completion

Plus: Key metrics are readily available for clinic teams to spot any potential issues early on and track patients’ performance over time.

So clinics control the education content as well?

Indeed. Clinic staff can schedule education materials around a patient’s surgery milestones to ensure the patient only receives and views content that pertains to their current stage in the surgery journey.

More specifically: Clinics “upload, manage, and track engagement with videos and resources.”

How do patients get started?

Clinics can invite patients by either email or a QR code.

Once invited—and after downloading the app—a patient will undergo onboarding to the platform by answering a few basic questions about their surgery stage, medications, and other preferences before being automatically connected to the correct surgery pathway.

And then?

From there, they’ll gain access to those aforementioned education materials and other digital services, as well as surgery and recovery support—from pre-surgery checklists to post-operative care reminders.

Is this platform currently in clinic use yet?

Indeed it is. See here for a look at feedback from ophthalmologists and surgeons so far.

The app appears to be available for download in most major global app markets: the United States, European countries, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America.

Now to the cost question.

For patients: The app can be downloaded for free.

And for clinics: Pricing varies ($2.8K to $9K) depending on three setup plans—plus the addition of bonus features such as:

  • An additional surgical flow, extra video editing session, as well as full and basic custom avatars.
