Coburn Technologies is introducing its latest offering to the company’s portfolio of next-generation lens edging platforms: the Huvitz HPE-990 Lens Edger.
First, give me a rundown on Coburn.
As a global manufacturer and distributor, Coburn provides computer-integrated ophthalmic lens processing systems, ophthalmic instruments, and consumables and supplies.
The company’s inventory also encompasses ophthalmic software equipment such as lensmeters, digital refractors, and slit lamps; retinal cameras; and vision screeners.
- And speaking of vision screeners, Coburn introduced the Huvitz HVS-1 Vision Screener to its U.S. catalog just a few months ago.
Let’s talk in-office finishing systems.
Coburn’s line of ophthalmic finishing equipment extends to optical lens edgers ranging from basic automatic cuts to—according to the company—“highly sophisticated” drilling, customized bevel and grooving positioning, and milling for hydrophobic lenses.
Included in this inventory:
- HPE-410 Excelon Lens Edger
- Ideal for start-up labs
- Equipped with a stronger wheel and longer durability
- Eliminates lens slippage via an adaptive lens chuck and position sensor
- HPE-910 EXXPERT Express Lens Edger
- Dubbed the company’s “fastest edger to date”
- Edges a single lens in as low as 80 seconds
- Includes processing times 50% faster than the HPE-410
- Available in four models (from basic to deluxe) with an option for a built-in drill
Now to this newest addition.
As an expansion of the pre-existing HPE-910 platform (see above), the Huvitz HPE-990 Lens Edger is marketed as a “high end, highly capable edger” equipped for premium edging precision.
Its purpose: Safely and precisely processing specialty (think: hydrophobic and high-curve) lenses.
- Specifically: The system offers additional combinations of edging:
- Types
- Styles
- Beveling
- Grooving
- The target lenses: plastic, hi-index, polycarbonate, trivex, and glass
And what models is the system equipped with?
Five in total—as seen (with their respective features) below:
- HPE-990 PRO
- Highest capabilities for wide range of lens jobs (deep step bevel for lens-over-frame eyewear styles and an integrated drill)
- HPE-990 XD
- Deluxe model; includes integrated drill, step bevel, true-bevel, and u-bevel (for high curve style frames)
- HPE-990 X
- Deluxe model; includes step bevel, true-bevel, and u-bevel (for high curve style frames)
- HPE-990 D
- Base model; includes standard bevels, grooving, and integrated drill
- HPE-990 N
- Base model; include standard bevels and grooving
Take note: That HPE-990 PRO model reportedly “performs the first Deep Step Bevel technology for lens-over-frame eyewear.”
And what’s an advantage of that feature?
Thanks to this technology, the lens edger can perform step bevels up to 20 mm.
Cobrun emphasized that any model of the HPE-990 is capable of performing lens edging jobs ranging from “standard, popular shapes to complex, unique, and trendy designs.”
Nice! So … where can I see this in action?
Are you attending next month’s Vision Expo West (Sept. 18-20) in Las Vegas, Nevada?
If so, you’re in luck—Coburn will be offering a live demonstration of the lens edger at its booth (#F6047) in the Eyecare Neighborhood.
