Altris AI is debuting the launch of its newest application to the Altris Inc. ecosystem: Altris Sync, designed to directly synchronize with optical coherence tomography (OCT) devices.
First, a look at Altris.
The medical technology company originated in 2017 as a research project before launching in 2018 out of Ukraine.
Its focus: Developing an automated OCT scan analysis for eyecare professionals (ECPs) that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) while leveraging advanced machine learning and computer vision algorithms.
- And beyond that: Altris later developed a mobile application for OCT education interpretation: Altris Education OCT.
Talk about this initial OCT scan analysis technology.
Broadly: Altris AI is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that identifies, localizes, and quantifies pathologies, pathological signs, and biomarkers in macular and retinal diseases.
- The technology’s detection and visualization capabilities extend to over 70 retinal conditions—and are available for both ophthalmic and optometric clinical workflows.
Its regulatory credentials: FDA 510(k)-cleared and HIPAA-compliant.

And I’m assuming it’s undergone clinical evaluation, right?
Correct. The software was the subject of a 2021 research thesis that evaluated its potential for using OCT imaging to detect early signs of retinal neurodegeneration.

Now to the new app.
Altris Sync syncs AI directly to OCT devices from eight OCT manufacturers to enable automated OCT file uploads (with raw OCT file processing) and eliminate the need for manual operation uploads.
- The app is also equipped with an expanded file compatibility
Circle back to those OCT manufacturers.
The app connects to the following manufacturer-made OCT devices directly to the Altris AI platform:
- Canon
- Carl Zeiss Meditec
- Heidelberg Engineering
- Nidek
- Nikon (Optos)
- Optopol
- Topcon Healthcare
- Visionix
What other capabilities are unique to this app?
One major advantage: Longitudinal analysis of historical data using AI.
What this enables for clinicians:
- Identification of clinical trends and generation of insights based on the data analysis
- Review of large volumes of historical data and identify patients who may benefit from certain treatments
- Disease progression tracking across scans from various OCT devices
- Using data such as maps, graphs, and percentage-based insights
And does it also come with regulatory credentials?
Indeed. Altris noted that the app is fully integratable into its software ecosystem and comes with the same security credentials as its original technology.
- This includes FDA clearance and HIPAA compliance in the United States.
