Eyes On Eyecare’s largest virtual glaucoma-focused event of the year kicked off last month with record-high attendance numbers from 60+ countries.

First off: a glaucoma rundown.

A leading cause of blindness—though rare, thanks to early detection and advanced treatments—glaucoma currently has no cure (as yet).

By the numbers: As of 2022, an estimated 4.22 million people in the United States (1.6% of U.S. adults) were reported to have glaucoma.

  • Of that, 1.49 million (0.57% of adults) had glaucoma impacting their vision.

Check out the latest research on this disease.

Now, to this annual event—tell me what I missed.

Held on June 14, the one-day-only (FREE!) experience saw over 2.6K attendees and +7.3K hours of education watched (including 4.5 credits of free COPE-accredited continuing education [CE]).

On the agenda: Content covering the latest glaucoma innovations in the industry, from technology and medications to surgery and artificial intelligence (AI).

What were some of the most popular sessions?

Education and clinical sessions featured a range of perspectives in glaucoma, with a few of the hottest topics covering:

  • Early intervention with procedures for minimizing drop burden and lowering intraocular pressure (IOP)
  • Current treatments (drops, surgery, drug delivery, and devices) and a sneak peek at future options like laser-based minimally invasive surgery (MIGS) and innovative drug delivery systems

And the experts on these?

You missed quite the lineup—on both the optometric and ophthalmic side:

  • Jeff Banas, OD
  • Nora Lee Cothran, OD, FAAO
  • Nate Lightizer, OD, FAAO, FAAO, MS
  • Danica J. Marrelli, OD
  • Justin Schweitzer, OD, FAAO (program chair)
  • Jessica Steen, OD, FAAO, Dipl ABO
  • Walter Whitley, OD, MBA, FAAO
  • Tanner J. Ferguson, MD
  • Brain Shafer, MD

Alas … so which companies were featured in the Exhibit Hall?

A few big names:

  • Alcon, Inc. (gold sponsor)
  • Glaukos Corporation (gold sponsor)
  • Dompé (silver sponsor)
  • Reichert Technologies (silver sponsor)
  • Bausch + Lomb (supporter)
  • Sight Sciences (grantor)
  • Topcon Healthcare (grantor)

And what did attendees come away with at the end?

A major bonus in the form of exclusive access to the 2025 Glaucoma Report.

  • As a refresh: This annual aggregation of optometrist feedback (from 400+ eyecare providers) with quantitative and qualitative data explores prevalence, preparedness, preferences in disease diagnostics and management, confidence in treatment, feelings surrounding co-management, and much (much) more.

But don’t worry—even if you missed EOG 2025, you can still download and read the full report here.
