Johnson & Johnson (JJ) announced the North American launch of its latest contact lens: ACUVUE OASYS Max 1-Day Multifocal (MF) for Astigmatism.

Right off the bat: What’s significant about this launch?

Most importantly: The newest ACUVUE OASYS lens is marketed as the first (and only) disposable contact lens for patients with both astigmatism and presbyopia.

Nice! Now back up a moment and talk about the ACUVUE OASYS Max brand.

As an upgrade to the original ACUVUE OASYS, the ACUVUE OASYS Max lenses were first introduced in September 2022.

Included in this daily disposable lens family:

And how are they designed?

A combination of unique technologies is utilized within each ACUVUE OASYS Max 1-Day lens to target “the needs of digitally intense lifestyles”:

  • TearStable Technology: Provides all-day comfort by locking in moisture and reducing evaporation by more than twice the amount of leading competitors (per JJV).
  • OptiBlue Light Filter: Filters blue-violet light by 60%reportedly the “highest in the industry”
    • To note: These light-blocking capabilities also include blocking 99.9% of ultraviolet A (UVA) rays and 100% of UVB rays

And this new lens?

The ACUVUE OASYS Max 1-Day MF for Astigmatism features those aforementioned technologies in its lens design as well as two additional proprietary technology designs:

  • Blink Stabilized design: Ensures the lens stays in place for optimal comfort and visual results
  • Pupil Optimized design: Assists in helping to “meet presbyopic needs,” even as patients age and their vision continues to change

Take note: These technology and design capabilities are based on data on file from JJV.

So which patients is it designed for?

Ideally, those experiencing multiple vision correction issues: presbyopia and astigmatism.

The lens is reported to provide wearers with all-day comfort as well as “crisp, clear, stable vision at all distances and in all lighting conditions.”

Any data to back that up?

Indeed there is. Study data on file from JJV detailed the following findings based on patients wearing the new ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day lens.

  • 95% of patients reported experiencing clear vision during their daily activities
  • 87% of patients reported clear vision while driving at night
  • 92% of patients reported a comfortable all-day vision experience

Sound promising … so when will this be available for my patients?

ACUVUE OASYS Max 1-Day MF for Astigmatism is now available in the U.S. and Canada!

And take note: The non-MF version of this lens (ACUVUE OASYS Max 1-Day for Astigmatism) is expected to launch in North America later this summer, according to JJV.

And beyond North America: Both versions of this lens are expected to launch in other markets across the globe later in the year (and into next year).
