Eschenbach Optik of America is introducing a new line of blue light blocking readers featuring a unique addition for visual comfort: anti-fog technology.
Let’s start with this company.
Launched in 1983 as the North American subsidiary of the German-based Eschenbach Optik GmbH, Eschenbach manufactures and distributes three product groups of high-quality magnification solutions (see below) to channel partners.
- Low vision aids
- Reading glasses
- Included in these: illuminated, progressive, and rimless
- Binoculars
These partners include: eyecare and vision rehabilitation professionals caring for patients with vision loss due to macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other related ocular diseases.
Speaking of products, didn’t they just release one not too long ago?
Indeed. That would be Opatro—the first video magnifier specifically designed for a smartphone—designed for use by patients with low vision.

Now on to these new readers.
The blue light-blocking reading glasses join Eschenbach’s inventory of single-vision and progressive ready-made readers (in powers up to +5.000 D).
What they do: Provide enhanced visual comfort and reduced eye strain in both inside and outside settings.
- How: Via a lens technology that blocks a reported 30% of blue-violet light rays (400 and 455 nm) and artificial light sources emitted from the sun and digital devices, respectively.
And that anti-fog component?
This technology is an anti-fog coating that reduces lens fogging.
How it works: These coatings transform moisture (condensation, such as fog) into a thin, clear film of water instead of droplets (scattering) that cause vision obstruction.
- What this does: Enables clear vision regardless of any sudden temperature changes or presence of condensation—such as when wearing a face mask.
- Previous clinical research has also supported this mechanism.
Let’s talk design.
The frames are composed of lightweight and durable polycarbonate material and feature spring hinge temples for a customizable fit and extended wear.
- Style-wise: Five variations are available—check them out—and offered in the following diopter (D) range: +1.00D, +1.50D, +2.00D, +2.50D, and +3.00D.
- For two of these models, higher magnifications are also available (+3.50D and +4.00D)
Any other notable features?
All readers are scratch- and impact-resistant—plus come with a protective clamshell case and a 1-year warranty.
