SCOPE Health Inc. is introducing two new acquisitions to its OPTASE portfolio: OPTASE MX2, a cloud-based meibographer, and OPTASE Connect (featuring Medbot technology), a customizable digital solution for eyecare professionals (ECPs).

Let’s start with OPTASE.

Since launching in 2016, the OPTASE brand has built up a broad product lineup of dry eye management solutions—including eye drops and sprays as well as moist heat masks, eyelid wipes, and gels.

Notably: All OPTASE products are preservative-free (PF) and designed to treat all types (and severity stages) of dry eye.

  • The brand’s intent: To advance eye health and comfort—with an emphasis on:
    • Dry eye
    • Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)
    • Blepharitis

Alrighty, now let’s talk about these new technologies.

First up: OPTASE MX2.

What it is: A portable, cloud-based meibographer that delivers high-definition (HD) imaging of the meibomian glands and anterior segment.

Its capabilities: The user-friendly device can be used on any slit lamp platform or as a handheld screener, providing:

  • Meibography: Everts upper eyelids without needing a large placido disc
  • Color photography: Document compares and zooms in for finer details
  • Fluorescein: Built-in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) enable images for tracking corneal staining and documenting contact lens fits

Its applications: Extend to blepharitis; lid lesions; meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD); conjunctival injections; pupil abnormalities; and incomplete lid closures.

How is it designed?

Among its features:

  • Anodized aluminium material
  • 5 MP high-resolution imaging system
  • Built-in capture button
  • Handheld handle
  • White, blue, and infrared (IR) LED
  • 360° movable arm
  • Universal pin mount

Check out the video below for instructions on how to set it up and what it can be used for.

And take note: This technology was originally developed as Meibox by Box Medical Solutions.

Explain the ‘cloud-based’ component of this.

The MX2’s platform pairs with—and is built on—a cloud server called MedBase, a comprehensive software platform.

What it does: This serves as a central data repository for patient imaging and information—plus offers a private portal for patients to view and share images from the MX2 as well as educational resources and patient consent records.

  • It also provides automatic software updates, eliminating “the need for paying for user licenses with a centralized database.”

Nice! Now about that other technology …

That would be the OPTASE Connect, a personalized digital service that integrates with a clinical practice’s electronic health record (EHR) to enable them to sell products directly to their patients.

Essentially: Scope refers to this solution as one that combines “automated marketing, ecommerce, and sales analytics into one powerful engine.”

So what does it offer?

The HIPAA-compliant service provides:

  • On-demand patient portal (for ordering)
  • Admin portal (for managing patient records, scans, treatment plans, and orders
  • Automated patient follow-ups
  • Automated retail recommendations
  • Subscription renewal reminders
    • Promotes 90-day treatment plans with subscriptions
  • Handles reorders, taxes, and reporting

And for patients: The intent is to support better patient outcomes and strengthen overall engagement—from reducing confusion with clearer instructions to keeping patients connected following clinic visits and assisting them with getting products in a timely fashion.

Nice! Lastly, how can I demo these technologies for my practice?

SCOPE offers a (risk-free) 30-day demo option for ECPs to try out both the OPTASE Connect and MX2 in their dry eye clinics. Schedule here.
