Alcon has launched a new addition to its suite of cloud-based, clinic-focused digital tools: Adi, a digital platform within the Alcon Vision Suite.
The company is introducing the platform during this weekend’s 2025 annual meeting of the Association for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) in Los Angeles, California.
First, a rundown on the Alcon Vision Suite.
This ecosystem of ophthalmic surgical products and digital services is designed to combine “the industry’s most comprehensive operating room (OR) suite” with the following:
- Clinical diagnostics
- Digital solutions
- Training and services
Included in these offerings: A range of surgical equipment largely designed for clinical diagnostics and cloud-base solutions for cataract surgery.
- See here for a look at a few of these diagnostic and visualization systems.
And in recent news: Also at ASCRS, Alcon has launched the newest addition to the Alcon Vision Suite: Its FDA-cleared UNITY Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS) and the UNITY Cataract System (CS). See here for those details.
And how does this platform come into play?
Adi is a digital platform featuring an expanding arsenal of digital tools that connect clinic workflows to the surgery center—specifically: linking patient and surgery data from the clinic to an OR to ensure the appropriate product is available.
To start: Alcon has rolled out three product modules:
- Clinic Connect
- Web-based platform enabling clinics to input patient and intraocular lens (IOL) info for future surgeries, notifying the surgery center of what is needed and when
- Inventory Manager
- This service uses a handheld scanner to scan and provide inventory of Alcon IOLs and other supplies for a surgery center to be aware of what is needed ahead of a surgery
- Online Store
- Offers a wide range of products for surgical procedures, including Alcon intraocular lenses (IOLs), custom paks, and surgical disposables
- Enables quick and efficient ordering (direct purchases included) of missing essential supplies or equipment ahead of a surgery.
- Includes full order visibility and complete billing history for all products
Note: While the online store had its soft launch ahead of ASCRS, Clinica Connect and the Inventory Manager are officially launching this weekend.
And how do these modules work together?
Both Clinic Connect and the Inventory Manager track patient demographics, surgery details, and IOL selection—as well as connect to the Online Store to forecast and restock IOL orders. A closer look at Clinic Connect: Alcon noted during a media briefing at ASCRS that this is intended to “act as a single source of truth” for patient and surgery info for clinics and surgery centers by providing instant real-time updates and notifications of delays or missing info.
Any real-world feedback yet on this in practice?
Yes! Gregory Eippert, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist and founder of Lasik Vision Centers of Cleveland in Independence, Ohio, has already implemented Adi at his practice.
In speaking on the platform’s launch at ASCRS, Dr. Eippert called Clinic Connect the “surgeon's module for reducing mistakes and delays.”
“[Adi] is a transformational way of connecting clinics and surgery centers like nothing I’ve ever seen,” he said, adding that a major bonus of the platform is that it notifies his staff of expired products and allows them to quickly keep up with their products.
Nice! Can we expect more modules to be available in the future?
Indeed we can. The company plans to roll out additional modules within the next year or so, including:
- Auto-Scheduling
- Surgical Planning
- Insight Center
- Surgery Day Optimizer
Sounds like a lot to look forward to. So how can I incorporate Adi into my workflow?
If you’re attending ASCRS this weekend (April 25-28), stop by the Alcon booth (#1815) for a demo of the platform.
Otherwise, reach out to your local Alcon Sales Representative to discuss options.
