Eyefinity is debuting an all-in-one integrated practice management (PM) and electronic health record (EHR) software platform for eyecare practices: the Eyefinity Encompass.
This comprehensive system is being introduced during Vision Expo East (VEE), Feb. 19-22, in Orlando, Florida.
First up: Eyefinity.
As a subsidiary of VSP Vision, Eyefinity is a Rancho Cordova, California-based software company specializing in providing EHR and PM solutions.
Notably: The company refers to itself as “the most widely used [PM and EHR] solutions provider in the industry,” referencing a number of performance-based achievements over the last 20+ years.
The report: Over 7,000 independent optometric clinical practices use Eyefinity—with more practices in the United States using its software platform than any other, according to the company.
Let’s take a look at each of these solutions.
We’ll start with the Eyefinity EHR.
Its electronic medical records (EMR) software is designed to streamline the eye exam and documentation process, ensuring ECPs are getting more face-to-face time with their patients.
Available via the web and as an app, the EHR program provides the following capabilities:
- Patient portal access for sending secure messages and attachments
- Accessible documents include pre-visit medical history forms, finalized visit notes, medications, and eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions
- Personalized exam protocols
- Reduce prescription errors, simplify repetitive tasks, and complete visits more quickly
- Image management
- File and display patients’ diagnostic images plus import data from nearly any imaging device—cutting down on staff workload
- Manage updated compliance and regulatory changes
- Access to MIPs requirements; automatic ICD-10 and CPT code updates; backend connections to health information exchanges (HIEs); and ePrescribing mandate tools
- As a bonus: A medical coding calculator can help validate medical coding based on Centers for Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines
- Access to MIPs requirements; automatic ICD-10 and CPT code updates; backend connections to health information exchanges (HIEs); and ePrescribing mandate tools
- Secured data
- Data conversion process, Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) accreditations, and an Amazon Web Services backup ensures safety and security of patients’ health records
- Equipment integration
That’s an extensive list of capabilities … so what comes with Eyefinity’s PM?
As part of the new Eyefinity Encompass, the company’s PM is designed to enable optometric clinical practices to organize and automate “day-to-day tasks for a more streamlined, staff-friendly workflow.”
Included in this are the following features and capabilities—all of which are available via the Encompass:
- Integrated online scheduler for 24/7 appointment bookings
- Automatically syncs to a practice’s schedule in the Encompass
- Customized settings available to create blackout dates patient information is updated
- Electronic patient notifications via automated text and voice message enable appointment, order pickup, and recall reminders
- VSP insurance integration
- Pulls real-time patient eligibilities and authorizations up to seven days before their appointment
- Out-of-pocket calculator shows patients insurance coverage and out-of-pocket dues before getting to the checkout
- Streamlined claims process
- Electronic remittance advice (ERA) automatically pulls remittance into the Encompass platform
- “Claims management” tools allow ECPs to process and bill claims to insurance carriers and patients faster—along with report tracking of those claims.
Alrighty, now let’s talk more about the whole platform.
Per Eyefinity President Charlie Biegel, the platform is an integration of its flagship cloud-based software products—EHR, PM, patient management, and data analytics—organized into one platform with an interface similar to its already established (and previously separate) technologies.
The plan: To “gradually introduce new and improved features,” including:
- A single unified login for customers
- Expanded ecosystem of “curated partner integrations” and innovations
- Supporting all insurances, frames, lenses, and labs
- Expanding point-of-sale functionality for practices to integrate promotions, multi-location management, etc.
I’m more of a visual person …

Any other notable features included?
Definitely a few others worth mentioning:
- New pricing screens for inventory
- Showing both discounted and retail price, visible to ECPs and patients (when invoiced)
- Total collection of analytics
- Broken down by exams, patients, products, and insurance
- Total cost avoidance calculations, personalized to each practice to track how revenue savings
- Two-way texting
- Notifies patients of product order statuses and appointment updates
The company also noted that an auto-save function will be available in the coming weeks, accessible for ECPs and patients when filling out exam information or demographic / medical history details.
Nice! So what if I’m already an Eyefinity user?
Not to worry—current users will reportedly have a “seamless transition” to the Encompass platform, with no action needed on their part.
The Eyefinity EHR and PM platforms will automatically unite under their new branding.
And if I’m not, where can I learn more about adding this to my practice?
