Johnson & Johnson announced two updates to its executive leadership team, starting with naming senior global executive Shawn Millerick as president of Americas, Vision Care.
Talk about Millerick.
Millerick is noted as bringing “extensive expertise in the vision space,” particularly in commercial strategy and enterprise solutions.
His experience also extends to the board consumer healthcare experience and over-the-counter (OTC) marketing—with a focus on shopper marketing and category insights, according to J&J.
Get into specifics on his experience.
Prior to joining J&J, Millerick served in two main executive roles at Abbott over a 7-year period (2017 to 2024), including (from most recently):
- Vice president, general manager, and corporate officer of the U.S. Pediatric Nutrition Business Unit
- Division vice president, U.S. Pediatric Marketing & China Cross Border E-Commerce
And before Abbott, he held two leadership positions in the eyecare space at Alcon, Inc.:
- Head of Strategy & Enterprise Solutions, U.S. Vision Care
- Head of Marketing, U.S. OTC
Nice! And what will his role entail at J&J?
As president of Vision Care, Americas, Millerick will be leading the company’s Vision Care business in both North America and Latin America (LATAM).
“His exceptional leadership and deep expertise will serve as a transformative catalyst for our future growth,” stated Peter Menziuso, Company Group chairman, Vision, Johnson & Johnson MedTech.
Speaking on his appointment, Millerick referred to rejoining the vision sector as a "privilege" that will enable him to contribute to J&J’s mission: Vision Made Possible.
And when is this effective?
It actually already is—Millerick assumed his role on Nov. 11.
Alrighty then! And you mentioned two updates to know about, right?
Indeed we did.
In addition to Millerick’s recent appointment, the company also announced that Erin Powers, its vice president of U.S. Sales and Marketing for J&J’s Surgical Vision portfolio, has taken on expanded responsibilities.
This includes: Leading the Surgical Vision business sector in both the U.S. and Canada as the new vice president of North America, Surgical Vision.
Will Powers and Millerick be working together?
Yes, according to J&J. The duo will reportedly be focusing on maximizing the growth of the company’s Vision Care and Surgical Vision portfolios as well as collaborating to "capitalize on opportunities, synergies, and Johnson & Johnson’s culture as a unified vision organization.”
Speaking of new developments … what has the company been up to?
Within the last few months, J&J has:
- Expanded the U.S. market rollout of its TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens (IOL), a purely refractive presbyopia-correcting lens
- Co-led Series A funding of TECLens, a new refractive surgery-based, private medical device start-up company
