Bausch + Lomb Corporation announced that industry veteran Cathleen McCabe, MD, has joined the company as strategic medical advisor.

First things first: Talk about this role.

As strategic medical advisor, Dr. McCabe will operate as a consultant providing input into B+L’s product portfolio expansion, the company reported.

Plus: Her expertise will be lent to B+L’s research and development team as it “reloads the company’s pipeline to address unmet needs,” and she’ll serve as a liaison to the global network of eyecare professionals (ECPs) using the company’s products and services.

Now to Dr. McCabe.

With nearly 30 years of clinical experience practicing as a high-volume cataract and refractive surgeon, Dr. McCabe specializes in bladeless laser cataract surgery and laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).

  • To note: She is reported to have performed +50K cataract surgeries and +17K LASIK procedures.

That’s pretty impressive. Go on …

While she serves as medical director at The Eye Associates* in Sarasota, Florida, Dr. McCabe is also the chief medical officer for Eye Health America (EHA), an eyecare practice management company that partners with clinical practices and ambulatory surgical centers across the Southeast United States.

*The Eye Associates is a practice member of EHA.

And outside of this?

Her role as an “educator and innovator” within the field of ophthalmology also extends to participating in clinical trials on the development of:

  • Intraocular lenses (IOLs)
  • Perioperative medications
  • Medications and devices for glaucoma
  • Dry eye treatments
  • Presbyopia correction

What other roles has she served in?

Within the eyecare community, she serves as a board member for charitable foundations such as:

  • Sight for Life
  • American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation

And her ophthalmic-based leadership positions have included:

  • Past President (Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society)
  • Member (American Academy of Ophthalmology Council)
  • Executive board member (ASCRS)

Quite the experience! Anything else I should know about B+L and its developments?
