Haag-Streit is debuting a new 3D option for its Imaging Module 910—a major update to the standard 2D slit lamp image documentation currently used by ophthalmologists.

Give me a quick company refresh.

Headquartered in Koeniz, Switzerland, Haag-Streit Group operates as an international Swiss medical device company.

Its areas of focus: Developing and manufacturing medical technology products for ophthalmology, pneumology, microsurgery, and optics.

See here for our latest coverage of the company.

And in the ophthalmology space?

The company has eight group companies across the globe, including Haag-Streit USA (located in Mason, Ohio).

The U.S.-based group manufactures and distributes medical equipment for eyecare professionals (ECPs), including Reliance Medical Products (which it also services)—an exam and procedure furniture brand.

Other medical device products include:

  • Octopus perimeters
  • Surgical microscopes
  • Reliance medical products
  • Slit lamps and imaging (our topic of interest)
  • LENSTAR biometers
  • EyeSuite software

Now this product.

Originally launched in 2022, the Imaging Module 910 slit lamp is designed to capture high-quality images—without the use of software—by the turn of a knob and the press of the camera trigger button.

Once an image is captured, the camera can be switched off and the device’s eyepieces gain 100% light.

Watch the video below.

What’s unique about these images?

The company noted that the device includes a versatile control panel (which can be operated blindly) and camera sensor with “smart features” like a performant auto-exposure mode and an automatic aperture control.

The result: (Ideally) guaranteed slit lamp illumination at all times.

Plus: An image selection algorithm is designed to capture the “sharpest and most expressive image possible,” according to the company.

How many modes can it operate in?

The compactly designed device is capable of operating in two main modes (and integrated into various environments):

  • Standalone mode → enables image storing directly in electronic medical records (EMR)
  • EyeSuite mode → integrated into Haag-Streit’s EyeSuite software, designed to connect with all company devices, office computers, and EMR system

Go on about this software component …

Thanks to the EyeSuite software, the slit lamp is fully networkable and requires no third-party software for connectivity.

Bonus: When connected to an EyeSuite server, all images captured can be accessed remotely via any viewing station connected to the same database, according to Haag-Streit.

Alrighty, now what’s this 3D update about?

The Imaging Module 910 3D (IM 910 3D, for short) features a second 4K camera to accompany the capabilities of the original IM 910.

The (intended) result: To give ophthalmologists a more immersive, deeper impression with even further detail.

Let’s talk about key capabilities.

Haag-Streit noted three areas of improved offerings:

  • Documentation: Via 3D images and videos, clinicians can view a more detailed and authentic representation of a slit lamp exam
  • Amplified 3D digital view: Viewable between the monitor andoculars; includes streaming of quality digital videos and images in 3D for residents
  • Teleophthalmology component: Enables immersive 3D experience for remote teleconsultants and examining clinicians
    • Note: This is currently only available in the United States

Nice! So where can I find this updated device?
