IbisVision Limited is introducing a new patient-targeted pre-consultation check, IBIS Re-Check, an enhancement to the IBISengage, its remote-based testing software for eyecare practices.
Let’s start with this company.
The Glasgow, Scotland-based, remote ophthalmic technology company was founded in 2014 and currently operates its U.S. headquarters in Miami, Florida.
Its focus: to provide remote vision testing software within the optical industry.
And this software?
The company’s two major remote-based solutions include:
- Right of Sight (ROS) eye test
- Based on patent technology that includes cursor-led visual field (VF) testing and LED screen
- Offers up to 11 different diagnostic eye tests
- IBIS-Connect
- Interactive platform based on ROS (see our coverage here)
- Able to continually measure a patient’s distance from the camera via their digital device
- Features an intuitive interface for more reliable, high-quality readings from the patient
The goal: early detection of glaucoma via a remotely-operated and deployed application via cloud-based technology solution.
Alrighty, now explain this IBISengage.
Listed as a Class 1 medical device by the FDA, the IBISengage is marketed as the “world’s first synchronous remote refraction.” The remote solution is designed to provide a range of ECP-led eye tests online (via a laptop, desktop, smartphone, or tablet) and determine a patient’s prescription (remotely) in a few minutes, including:
- Visual acuity (VA)
- Visual field (VF)
- Contrast sensitivity
- Color vision
- ICN Vision
- Features diverse visual assessments for a more “holistic and comprehensive evaluation of vision health”
See here for a complete list (under FAQs).
And this new feature?
IBIS Re-Check is designed to detect changes in patients’ optical needs since their last clinical visit through the use of virtual consultants, who “anticipate any necessary prescription adjustments and prepare for potential sales of new glasses and lenses.”
Eye tests conducted via the IBISengage are integrated with sales activities to reduce potential wasted time in the clinic.
What makes this unique?
Per the company, the combination of IBISengage with IBIS Re-Check is intended to enable eyecare practices to offer both clinician-led and patient self-serve services—including flexible options and possibly improved quality of care.
Any input from the company on this new offering?
IbisVision CEO Mark Roger noted that, by shifting the responsibility for the initial check of a prescription to the patient, eyecare practitioners could be available for interventions where their input is critical.
“The second revolution with this process is in making the sale of new eyewear easier for both the doctor and patient,” Roger stated. “The eye doctor now knows which client is likely to need to purchase new eyewear and can prepare accordingly.”
