OCULUS, Inc. has launched its newest, next-generation perimetry product exclusively to the U.S. market: the OCULUS Easyfield Virtual Reality (VR).
Refresh me: isn’t OCULUS a German company?
Yes, but this latest announcement comes from the American subsidiary (based in Arlington, Washington) of the German ophthalmic diagnostic device manufacturer.
Gotcha. Now let’s dive right in.
The Easyfield VR is a VR headset designed to provide visual field (VF) screenings in less than 1 minute, as well as the following:
- Vision screening
- Color vision
- Contrast sensitivity
- Stereo vision screenings
- Medical testing
- Threshold VFs
- 30-2 (less than 4 minutes per eye)
- 24-2 (less than 3 minutes per eye)
- 10-2 (less than 3 minutes per eye)
- Progression analysis
- Ptosis VFs
- Esterman VFs
- Eye tracking (see below)
- Threshold VFs
What kind of eye tracking technology is this?
A unique addition to the headset, OCULUS’s proprietary SMARTracker 2 Fixation Tracking technology is intended to monitor patient fixation and ensure continuous eye tracking for reproducible testing results.
Give me some design details.
The lightweight device includes an adjustable, foam-padded headset for patient comfort.
The headset is designed to fit around the patient’s head—and can be easily cleaned with sterile wipes—to minimize the risk for potential fatigue or errors, all while allowing for faster testing times, per OCULUS.
Hand controllers for both hands are also available for patients to give their feedback during an examination.
How are the test results recorded?
Eyecare professionals (ECPs) can start and monitor each test of the examination remotely via a tablet. Results are then recorded in the OCULUS Patient Data Management, the company's in-house software program.
Any other unique components?
Each exam is audio-guided (available in both English and Spanish), “so patients can complete their testing autonomously, reducing demands on technician time and enabling staff to prep for their next patient,” according to OCULUS.
So where can I find this?
