ZEISS Medical Technology is introducing a number of new digital tools updates this weekend at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting—with a new cloud-based software solution at the forefront.
Let’s dive right in… what’s the latest new product?
The company has launched the ZEISS PROSPARA, promoted as a “one-stop-shop,” cloud-based, all-in-one marketing management solution and automation software for refractive clinical practices.
To note, the software is equipped to be used with ZEISSs Corneal Refractive Workflow, which is intended to provide surgeons with a digitally-connected infrastructure and potential for improved efficiency packaged in an all-in-one platform.
Gotcha. Now talk more about PROSPARA.
Per ZEISS, the software’s data-driven component includes comprehensive performance reports and keyword performance comparisons against top competitors (to promote better online visibility).
An artificial intelligence (AI) Smart Search (search engine optimization [SEO]) enables surgeons to identify “high-impact keywords” among local business rankings to better position themselves in the top spots of local search results and search engine listings.
How else does it target digital searches?
PROSPARA allows for users to share content across multiple platforms as well as use patient reviews for enhancing their practice’s online credibility.
The intended goal: to use the software to possibly amplify the number of patients that could discover a specific practice.
Can I collaborate with my staff on this?
Yes! Per ZEISS, the software provides multiple user licenses with access for a collaboration that allows them to maintain their roles and responsibilities.
Is it accessible on my phone?
For the most part, PROSPARA is intended to be accessed on a desktop computer for a more “comprehensive experience."
However, it is accessible via a tablet’s web browser.
So how do I get access to it?
ZEISS offers a step-by-step guide, including:
- Contacting the company
- Booking a product demo
- Gaining access

There’s a trial period, right?
Yup! The company offers a 3-month period to test PROSPARA’s usability and compatibility for your practice. Following the trial, a subscription fee of $799 per month will be charged.
Gotcha. So what other digital tools are being unveiled?
Also on display at the AAO ZEISS booth are digital devices linked to its Retina Workflow:
- ZEISS CIRRUS- The only diagnostic optical coherence tomography (OCT) device with an age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and geographic atrophy (GA) tool kit.
- ZEISS CLARUS- An ultra-widefield imaging fundus camera that includes three modalities for capturing / documenting AMD, GA, and diabetic retinopathy (DR):
- True color
- Fundus autofluorescence (FAF)-green
- FAF-blue
- ZEISS VISULAS green- A photocoagulator with a laser wavelength of 532 nm to therapeutically treat retinal diseases. The device can provide optimal wavelength for DR treatment (currently commercially available).
Also of note, the laser connects to the ZEISS FORUM (an ophthalmic data management solution).
- ZEISS ARTEVO 800 with integrated intraoperative OCT (RESCAN 700)- An ophthalmic microscope, with the addition of the RESIGHT 700 from ZEISS, enabling a clear and detailed retinal view.
