Now the PanOptic Ophthalmoscope.
Designed as a next-generation ophthalmoscope, the PanOptic Plus features a viewing area that is 20x larger than a standard or pocket ophthalmoscope.
The equipment includes light-emitting diode (LED) lamps and DuraShock Technology, developed as a groundbreaking aneroid technology to promote durability and accuracy.
Watch the video below for details.
What else?
The PanOptic Plus also includes the proprietary Quick Eye alignment technology for improved optic disc alignment. Per Baxter, two lights appearing on the patient side allow clinicians to direct their gaze, enabling an easier and rapid approach to achieve a clarified view of the anterior and posterior segments.
How does this imaging capability come into play?
The iExaminer Pro System allows the PanOptic Plus to connect a smart device to capture digital images for further examination during an optical exam. According to Baxter’s Julie Jakubowski, MD, FACP, head of medical affairs, Front Line Care, the technology combo gives clinicians the ability to, “catch issues early on in a primary care setting, easily collaborate with specialists, and facilitates patients getting the diagnosis, care and treatment they need in a timely manner.”
Meaning?
Essentially, the device is designed for in-office use to efficiently and quickly capture high-quality ocular images that can be sent digitally within a variety of healthcare settings for further evaluation of both pediatric and adult patients.
Any real-world use with it?
Yes, actually.
Since 2021, the iExaminer Pro System has already been in use with Baxter’s Welch Allyn Macroview Plus Otoscope, which was designed with a 3x larger viewing area for ear exams.
So where can I get a preview of this?
The new technology is officially available in the United States, with two upcoming (non-eyecare… sorry!) conferences featuring it:
- American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition
- October 20-24, 2023; Washington, DC
- American Academy of Family Physicians Family Medicine Experience conference
- October 26-29, 2023; Chicago, Illinois
