The Viatris Eye Care Division is introducing a new nationwide, multi-channel campaign centered around the use of Tyrvaya (varenicline solution) nasal spray 0.03 mg as a treatment option for dry eye disease (DED).
Let’s start with Tyrvaya.
Tyrvaya, a cholinergic agonist, was FDA approved in October 2021 as the first and only prescription-based nasal spray indicated to treat the signs and symptoms of DED.
Per its prescribing information, the recommended dosage is one 0.3 mg of spray in each nasal twice daily (BID), approximately 12 hours apart.
Click here for the clinical data on it (page 5) and potential adverse reactions (page 2).
To note, Tyrvaya was originally developed by Oyster Point Pharma before being acquired by Viatris in 2022.
Now this campaign.
The campaign—entitled “It’s Not Another Drop”—is targeted toward both consumers and eyecare professionals (ECPs) to encourage conversation regarding the DED treatment via the following:
- National television commercial
- Patient resources
- ECP resources
What kinds of resources?
Patient-targeted resources include real-world patient experiences, instructions on how to use the nasal spray (see here), and exactly how it works (see here).
Click here to watch the step-by-step video on how to properly use Tyrvaya, and here to read the transcript. (For reference, Viatris recommends following the “TEAR” way).
How about for talking with an ECP?
A digital discussion guide (available here) offers patients how to approach the topic of using Tyrvaya with their doctors, including conversation starters and key questions to ask before being prescribed.
Hold up … exactly how much does it cost?
Per the Tyrvaya website, the amount a patient pays will depend on the type of insurance and level of coverage. However, the list price for a 30-day supply clocks in at $633.75.
To note, a reported 90% of patients who use Tyrvaya’s savings offer “pay no more than $10 for their 30-day supply—including refills.”
So how can I save on it?
A “Your Guide to Saving and Support” brochure is available, complete with information on TEAMTyrvaya—a free patient support program offering tips and tools for prescription order of the nasal spray as well as potential prescription savings.
