Johnson & Johnson Vision (JJV) has joined the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in its fight to advocate for global eye health.

Refresh me on IAPB.

Founded in 1975, IAPB is an international, umbrella alliance focused on leading efforts in working toward the prevention of blindness and vision impairment

With over 200 organization members (according to IAPB CEO Peter Holland) in seven regions and more than 100 countries, the non-governmental organization (NGO) builds partnerships to promote eye health at both a local and international level.

Talk more about these members.

Per IAPB, membership is open to not-for-profit and for-profit organizations that operate across and within the eye health space.

Notable members include the World Council of Optometry (WCO), International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), CooperVision, Novartis, AbbVie, and Roche.

See here for a complete list.

What does membership mean?

As IAPB members, organizations are expected to:

  • Actively support the goal to end avoidable sight loss, drive awareness of eye health globally
  • Use their voice and brand to advocate and campaign for IAPB at a global, regional, and national level
  • Contribute insights and expertise in developing/strengthening theIAPB network
  • Commit to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals to support the IAPB agenda

And for JJV?

In addition to becoming a member, the company has also joined IAPB’s Love Your Eyes campaign by becoming World Sight Day Global Partners.

Talk about this campaign.

In support of this year’s World Sight Day, the Love Your Eyes campaign is “calling on governments and businesses to make eye health accessible, available, and affordable for everyone by 2030,” according to IAPB.

These three A’s include:

  • Access to eye care
  • Available sight tests
  • Affordable glasses

The alliance is encouraging members to use #LoveYourEyes on social media to raise awareness and take action in support of eye health.
