Dr. Contact Lens (DCL), a digital contact lens ordering solution, announced it has been recognized in Inc. Magazine’s “Inc. 5000 2023” list of fastest-growing private companies in the United States.
Talk about this list.
The annual Inc. 500 list for 2023 is considered a benchmark within the business industry, spotlighting the most successful companies currently making “a greater impact on the U.S. economy.”
Each listed company is ranked based on its percentage revenue growth from 2019 to 2022 (qualifying companies must have been founded and generating revenue prior to March 31, 2019) as well as be:
- U.S.-based
- Private-held
- For-profit
- Independent (not subsidiaries) as of December 31, 2022
How did Dr. Contact Lens rank?
Dr. Contact Lens ranked in the #41 slot and reported a 9,229% 3-year growth.
Now this company.
Co-founded in 2016 by Brianna Rhue, OD, FAAO, FSLS, and Jenn Tabiza, OD, the DCL platform connects patients with an alternative and quicker way to order contact lenses via an eye doctor’s practice via an interface that is available 24/7.
A quicker way, you say?
Yup. Traditionally, the lens ordering process can be on the lengthy side (often 28 steps, according to DCL).
According to the company, its HIPAA-compliant interface is designed to sync with a practice’s electronic health records (EHR) so staff can order their lenses straight from their medical records in under 2 minutes.
From there, the ordering process is managed by DCL.
Does shipping cost anything?
Nope! All patients ordering through DCL receive free shipping.
Does the system integrate with all systems?
As many EHR systems as possible, according to the company.
If a practice’s system is not able to be integrated, “you can still be very successful with our platform. In fact, most successful users are using our integrated platform,” DCL stated.
However, the company recommends eye doctors reach out to its support team to discuss how to integrate an EHR system into their practice.
So how fast is a patient’s prescription added to the platform?
On average, every 10 to 20 minutes, according to DCL.
Do patients benefit?
Indeed they do, according to DCL. Patients will receive a text message and email reminder to reorder their lenses 15 days) before a patient’s reorder date.
To note, these notifications can be customized to include phone calls.
How does it help the ordering process?
The platform sends automatic reorder reminders to patients who are due to reorder their lenses or schedule an appointment
For lens orders, this eliminates “double date entry” to make the ordering/reordering process a “revenue-generating” part of the practice.
What if a patient wears XR lenses?
Because these are custom lenses, an order may be delayed anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks.
Talk more about this revenue aspect.
The DCL dashboard allows users to keep track of where their contact lens patients are in their wear cycle by viewing:
- Who never ordered lenses
- Who is due to reorder lenses
- Who is due for an appointment
And the software cost?
DCL’s software and process begin with a one-time onboarding fee of $999 followed by a monthly fee of $299.
