CooperVision recalls Biofinity sphere CLs in Singapore

CooperVision is recalling specific lots of its Biofinity sphere monthly disposable contact lenses in Singapore following reports of foreign particles being found.

Sold in Singapore, the Biofinity sphere contact lenses are designed for both farsightedness and nearsightedness using CooperVision’s Aquaform technology (for all-day comfort and clear vision via oxygen delivery) and Aberration Neutralizing System (for minimizing optical imperfections and enhancing vision quality.

And which are being recalled?

The company is recalling only the -7.00 diopter products (of which 11,868 pieces of the affected lens have been supplied in Singapore) with the following product lot numbers, located on the back of each lens carton and blister foil:

  • 12908000914028
  • 12908050243028
  • 12908050254028
  • 12908050265028

Why?

According to Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA)— the national authority for health product regulations—a limited number of blisters were found to contain foreign particles.

No further information has been provided regarding the type of particles.

Have any adverse reactions been reported?

As of June 19, 2023, there have been no reports of adverse events associated with the lenses.

What should consumers do if they have an affected product?

Quite simply, don’t use them.

If they experience any eye irritation due to use of the lenses, they should seek medical attention immediately.
