Eiyan Lens has launched a new direct-to-consumer silicone contact lens brand geared toward affordability and accessibility.

Tell me about these lenses.

Manufactured by Visco Vision, the silicone hydrogel-based lenses contain a 47% water content and high oxygen permeability of 120 Dk/t. Currently only available as monthly lenses, they have an 8.7 base curve and a 14.0 diameter.

Power range options include -12.00 D to -0.25 D and +0.25 D to +7.50 D.

Are they available in toric or multifocal options?

According to Eiyan, no. However, the company also hinted at the potential to offer such options in the future.

What kind of protection do they offer?

According to the company, the lenses provide ultraviolet-A (UVA) and ultraviolet-B (UVB) class 2 protection, guarding against 70% and 95% of UVA and UVB rays, respectively.

Have they been FDA approved?

Yes, according to Eiyan. The lenses “meet all safety requirements set by the FDA,” the company stated.

Further, “they also meet safety and quality standards set by other regulatory systems such as [Good Manufacturing Practice] GMP, ISO 13485:2016, [Quality System Regulation] QSR, and [Medical Device Single Audit Program] MDSAP.”

How are prescriptions handled for these lenses?

Patients with a contact lens prescription from a previous eye care practitioner (ECP) can enter their prescription details here.

The company also offers a free vision test; upon completion, patients will receive a prescription. Once they place their order, they can also provide their ECP’s information to verify the prescription.

How much are the lenses?

Each box contains a 3-month supply (3 lenses per box), costing $11.95. Shipping is free for anywhere in the United States.
