Lumibird Medical has announced the launch of two new additions to its premium neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd:YAG) / selective-laser trabeculectomy (SLT) laser range—the Tango Neo and the UltraQ Reflex Neo.

How do I know Lumibird?

Lumibird Medical was formed from the 2020 merger of Quantel Medical and Ellex entities and specializes in ophthalmic diagnostic and treatment equipment.

In December 2022, Lumibird launched its flagship product, the Tango Reflex Neo.

Talk about the Tango Neo.

In addition to the capabilities of its predecessor for YAG and SLT treatments—see here for details—the Tango Neo features an improved general user interface with an updated configuration that emphasizes intuitive control.

What about the UltraQ Reflex Neo?

The UltraQ Reflex Neo is a fully integrated Q-switched Nd:YAG laser for anterior-segment YAG and glaucoma indications.

It uses second-generation Reflex technology with True Coaxial Illumination (TCI), allowing for enhanced visualization of the anterior and posterior segments.

In addition, the UltraQ Reflex Neo introduces new features, such as Imprint, a dynamic heads-up display with a real-time view of treatment settings within the binoculars.

This is combined with a dual-function joystick with full control of energy settings and up to 2 mm YAG posterior offset, which assists another new feature called Premium Refractive Outcome Capsulotomies (PROcap).

What exactly is PROcap?

PROcap is an alternate technique to the Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy. As Matthew Metcalfe, the Anterior Segment Laser Product Manager at Lumibird Medical, outlines, PROcap was designed “to improve the geometry of capsule openings, maximize intraocular lens (IOL) protection, and significantly reduce postoperative iatrogenic floaters.”

Anything else to know?

The Tango Reflex Neo, UltraQ Reflex Neo, and Tango Neo are all CE-marked and FDA 510(k) approved.

How can I test this out?

The new lasers will be featured at the Lumibird booth at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) annual meeting in San Diego, May 5-8, 2023.
