The FDA has approved Zeiss’s CT Lucia 621P monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) for commercial use in the United States.

Talk about this IOL.

The aspheric and single-piece C-loop IOL is made with hydrophobic acrylic with a heparin-coated surface.

It includes Zeiss’s patented Zeiss Optic (ZO) Asphericity Concept, which compensates for a wide range of aberrations that are byproducts of varying lens positions and corneal shapes.

By reducing the risk for potential lens misalignments and decentration during IOL implantation, it could enhance visual outcomes.

How does its design affect performance?

The IOL’s architecture is designed for stable and consistent positioning within the capsular bag as well as an improved, fully loaded injector system for an intuitive cataract workflow.

What are the specifications?

Single-piece lens design has an optic diameter of 6.0 mm; 13.0 mm total diameter; an incision size of 2.2 to 2.6 mm (depending on diopter); a diopter range from +0.0 to +34.0 D, 0.5 D increments; and a 1.49 refractive index.

See here for further details, including how the CT LUCIA 621P compares to previous versions (211 and 221; 611; and 621PY).
