Iridex Corporation announced the full US market launch of its next-generation PAttern SCAnning Laser (PASCAL) platform with MicroPulse, designed as an advanced technology package of fast / precise pattern scanning capabilities and three tissue-sparing technologies in a smaller, ergonomically-optimized integrated laser platform.
Talk about this MicroPulse technology first.
Iridex’s patented technology is a laser delivery modality designed to add fine control of photothermal effects in laser photocoagulation by allowing the tissue to cool between laser pulses, minimizing or preventing potential tissue damage.
It can be used to treat multiple retinal diseases as well as glaucoma.
Now tell me more about this platform.
Building on its predecessor, the PASCAL’s four-fiber beam design is geared towards improving depth of focus during treatment—all while maintaining consistent energy delivery across different tissue elevations as well as in the retina’s far periphery.
It also includes a smaller physical footprint with touch screen controls, an intuitive user interface that provides easier accessibility to pattern variations, and an auto advance function that enables a physician to keep their focus in the oculars while it delivers sequential patterns.
And the technology?
The latest platform’s technology includes the following:
- Endpoint Management (EpM): a pattern subthreshold retinal laser therapy with a unique algorithm used for controlling laser power and pulse duration to optimize a therapeutic effect.
- Pattern-scanning laser trabeculoplasty (PSLT): reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) by supplying a fast, computer-guided treatment that adds a sequence of patterns along the trabecular meshwork (TM).
What else?
The patented proprietary technology of MicroPulse Mode cuts a continuous-wave laser beam into short, repetitive sequences with low-energy pulses separated by longer rest periods (enabling the tissue to cool in between pulses).
Anything else to know about this?
The platform is currently available in 532 nm (green) and 577 nm (yellow) models.
