Global nonprofit eye bank EverSight announced that the Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) tissue preloaded in EndoGlide is now commercially available as an additional option in corneal surgery.
Tell me more about this EndoGlide.
Compared to standard injectable DMEK grafts (which are loaded endothelium-out), the preloaded DMEK EndoGlide involves an endothelium-in or trifold loading method that infuses the graft into the eye via an anterior chamber maintainer.
From there, specialized forceps make a 2.65 mm incision to transport the graft into the eye, where it naturally unscrolls in the proper orientation.
This isn’t the only preloaded DMEK option from EverSight, right?
Right; it’s actually the fourth option. Previous injectors include:
- DORC tube
- Micro Jones Tube (used with EverSight’s DMEConnect)
- Modified Jones Tube
All injectors come with a free-floating 5.00 mm rim segment included in the vial for cultural needs. Click here to see available graft sizes
What’s unique about this new option?
The EndoGlide features added control of the graft via a pull-through technique and endothelium-in component, which are key to the procedure’s positive outcomes and could potentially enable success in more complex cases while reducing overall surgical time in the eye.
