Bausch + Lomb announced the release of its latest addition to the PreserVision AREDS2 formula product lineup: PreserVision AREDS2 Formula mini soft gels with OCUSorb.

What's the background on AREDS2?

Researchers in the National Eye Institute’s second Age-Related Eye Disease Studies (AREDS2) (NC00345176), found that a specific nutrient formula can lower the risk of progression of moderate-to-advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In 2021, 10-year data confirmed that the formula has persistent long-term benefits for this patient base.

See here for a more detailed history.

What is the AREDS2 formula?

The formula includes lutein (10 mg); zeaxanthin (2 mg); Vitamin E (180 mg); Vitamin C (500 mg); zinc (80 mg); and copper (2 mg).

What other PreserVision AREDS2 products are there?

Bausch + Lomb previously rolled out the AREDS2 Formula Chewables, AREDS2 Formula + MultiVitamin, and an older version of the soft gels.

See here for a complete list of the PreserVision AREDS/AREDS2 products.

How do these new gels differ from the original mini soft gels?

The two-capsule-per-day dosage of mini soft gels contain the AREDS2 formulation as well as the OCUSorb formulation, which is Bausch + Lomb’s proprietary composition of lutein and zeaxanthin that have been clinically shown to be superiorly absorbed compared to the previous version of the mini soft gel formula. Will they replace the original mini soft gels?

Yes, they’ll replace the current PreserVision AREDS2 Formula mini gel formula.

Where can patients find these soft gels?

They’re available at most major retailers across the country in the vitamin aisle.
