Alcon announced it will launch TOTAL30 for Astigmatism as the first-and-only reusable toric contact lens with water gradient material for contact lens wearers.

What’s this water gradient material?

The proprietary material was initially introduced with Alcon’s Dailies TOTAL1 contact lenses. It implements a gradual increase to almost 100% water at the outermost surface of the lens, enabling a gentle cushion of moisture and ensuring the eye is untouched.

What else is unique about the lens?

The TOTAL30 design includes Alcon’s biomimetic celligent technology, which allows for a clean lens via bacteria and lipid deposit resistance.

It also features a Precision Balance 8|4 lens design, patented by Alcon for toric contact lenses, which features two anchor points in lieu of just one, and provides pressure on the top of the lens. The design creates on-eye stability for clear and stable vision as well as maximizes oxygen transmissibility.  (via)

Is this Alcon’s first toric lens?

It’s actually the third lens in just two years, including two daily disposable lenses. The company previously launched Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism in 2022 and Precision1 for Astigmatism in 2021.

When will it hit the market?

The lens will be widely available in the U.S. and Europe starting early this year. Alcon is also planning a rollout to global markets later in 2023.
