New ocular telehealth program enabling diabetic retinopathy screening

New Visionix and 20/20NOW Program debuts at ATA 2024 booth #814

Visionix USA and 20/20NOW announce the launch of their newest collaboration, an Ocular  Telehealth Program that will be presented at the American Telemedicine Association (ATA)’s 2024 Nexus  Conference and Expo in Arizona this May. Visionix and 20/20NOW will be offering an exclusive exploration  on how to get started with telehealth-enabled eye exams at ATA booth #814. Slots are limited so ATA  attendees are encouraged to book an appointment. One-on-one consultations will be available to learn  about:

• How to get started with Ocular Telehealth,

• Establishing a Comprehensive Screening Program,

• Exploring Visual Tools for Diabetic Retinopathy patient consultations,

• Understanding Legal, IT and EMR compatibility; as well as ROI, staffing and OPEX considerations.

Addressing the need for early detection of Diabetic Retinopathy (and more)

A recent report by Yale University concluded that the prevalence of diabetes-related eye disease  remains high yet an estimated 50% of patients with diabetes do not receive recommended annual vision screening, while JAMA Ophthalmology estimated 9.6 million people in the United States have DR.

According to Matt Vulich, VP National Accounts & Optical Sales at Visionix USA, “The strategic purpose of  our technology partnership is to help more providers provide high-quality eye exams to more patients.  Diabetic Retinopathy ― or DR ― can have life-changing impact, and we can help more doctors prevent  or identify symptoms in its early stages. I am proud to share that our new Ocular Telehealth Program with  20/20NOW offers several Visionix device options—from straightforward retinal screening to  comprehensive multimodal screening of eye diseases.”

Implementing an Ocular Telehealth Program for any type of Medical Practice

Chuck Scott, the CEO at 20/20NOW and a longtime member of ATA, explains, “This Ocular Telehealth  Program is guided by best practices set by organizations like ATA, combined with our years of telehealth  implementation success. Our goal is to enable more practices with Specialty Care for an underserved  patient base, like DR screening.” 20/20NOW was a key contributor to development of the ATA Ocular  Telehealth Special Interest Group (Ocular SIG) two-part statement that covered elements needed to provide high quality remote eye exams, and the need for telehealth as a tool for eye care delivery.

Over three million eye exams have been performed using 20/20NOW’s proprietary software platform. On  staff doctors are responsible for driving test results assessment and live video clinical review with each  patient. In a recent interview, 20/20NOW detailed how their Tele-Optometry Platform expands provider reach without compromising quality of care.

Scott emphasizes, “If one of your growth objectives is to reach and serve more patients with eye disease,  we have a proven process to implement a new Ocular Telehealth Program into your existing  infrastructure. We can export completed medical records to your existing EHR or practice management  solutions. Using state-of-the-art technology from Visionix, and 20/20NOW’s telehealth technology and  professional services platform we can enable any type of medical practice—from rural hospital systems  to remote clinics—the ability to provide exams.”
